    did the price hike in fuel prices happen after the hurricane in USA? if so, are the world wide oil price increases aimed at getting the whole world to pay for the rebuilding of several US states (in the sneeky underhand way that the Yanks are good at)

    no you are not being thick

    your right soon as something happens in the US it seems to happen everywhere else, bit ridiculous the fuel prices, its not like we have had an earthquake and we are putting fuel up because they realise people will not be paying it as much now.

    It is because a significant section of the world's refineries were damaged so supply and demand pushes up the price. Gordon Brown rubs his hands as the duty and vat is on a % basis therefore a 20% increase in the price of fuel= a 20% increase in the tax take !
