LONDON (Reuters) - England fans are being encouraged to learn the German versions of well known football chants before the World Cup.

In its package of travel tips for fans at the month-long tournament, the Foreign Office is to provide handy singalong translations on its website www.britishembassyworldcup.com.

"Those football fans who wish to learn the English songs in German to sing at the World Cup can do so and the Foreign Office will help them do that," a spokesman said.

"We are not sure when they will go up on the site and which chants will be chosen," he added.

The Sun, stepped eagerly into the breach with a two-page World Cup song sheet.

Inevitably that included a translation of "5-1 5-1" -- England's winning margin against Germany in a World Cup qualifying match in 2001.

    Probably not

The Foreign Office are encouraging fans to learn some German phrases, nothing at all wrong with that, and then they said it "might be fun" to sing in German and so put the songs up in German. They are just getting into the spirit of the World Cup and having a bit of a laugh.
But the Sun turn that around to say "Fans TOLD to sing in German".

Another reason why I despise The Sun….can't wait to see what jingoistic rubbish they come up with during the World Cup.

    The Sun can **** off

Yep, this is another one of those "oh my god, political correctness gone mad, we can't even sing in our own language anymore, bloody foreigners" stories blown up by the nobhead press to get berks all worked up and xenophobic little-englander style, but then turns out to be completely meaningless and just a bit of fun when you look into it.

    Damn those Brussels bureaucrats eh.

The Sun can double **** off.
