The more you earn or are likely to have earned the more you get.

Every Sympathy for Leslie Ash but I am not sure I agree with the approach

Work in McDonald's get bug in hospital - compensation £10,000
Moderately successful actress - compensation £5million
Very successful actress or Prem footballer - compensation £50 million

People denied treatment because trust is out of money paying film stars - compensation £0

    She Deserves The Money

She was about to make a new series of Men Behaving Badly, when she got ill. A shock case like this, with so much money involved, might mean more will be done to avoid having to pay out similar in the future.

    wait a second

your agrument is at the wrong end of the issue.
"ordinary" people, as you call them get paid ordinary wages and should therefore get a reasonable settlement. i agree that not enough is done for "ordinary" people but the expect to have your standard of living reduced by someone elses incompetence is rather UN-reasonable i would have thought.

    RE: No

agreed it should not break the bank, but it also should not be disproportionate either

    So, basically

The richer you are the more money you get in compensation.

    thats not what i said

and i suspect you know it.

its earnings related and nothing to do with intrinsic wealth - as i understand it.

    forgive me if i'm mistaken

I have a right to hate every tw@t that's got a penny more in the bank than I have, whether they've worked their (small) ****** off for it or not.

    Down with the rich !!!

    Let them eat cake.

    In which case then

She shouldn't get a set figure as nobody knows when she will die.

    RE: In which case then

At least she is still alive, what about the poor souls who have died fom hospital acquired infections? No compensation for them, in many cases the real cause of death is not stated on the death certifcate.

    RE: In which case then

you're obliged in law to settle these issues within 3 years of the accident. the insurers will want or prefer a full and final settlement rather than let it drag on for ages and them incurring administration costs. that's why they tend to lump sum settle.
    i think.

    RE: In which case then

who has died in hospital, had their case proven in law that it was negligence on the hospitals part, and not recieved compensation?

If it's a lump sum then it can't possibly be a figure for how much she would have earnt in the future.

At the end of the day she is still capable of working as an actress, she just chooses not to.
