A tale of a boy and his bird, 13 Jan 2006 <table><tbody><tr><td valign="top">Reviewer:</td><td><span style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold"><font color="#003399">garth marengghi "dccmyst"</font></span> (UK) - <font color="#003399">See all my reviews</font></td></tr></tbody></table>Kes follows a fourteen year old boy's day to day life in a colourless working class town in the north somewhere, I don't know where, Lancashire maybe a few decades ago in the 50's I think. This boy doesn't really fit in at school and doesn't have any friends. I found the dialogue hard to follow at some points, because of the strong accent. The cast all deliver a strong performance and is a a very realistic depiction of day to day life in this particular town. Anyway there is not a lot I can say is wrong with this film, It is solid and holds your attention to the end, its quite atmospheric, but isn't a masterpeice. I'd probably give it 3 and 3/4 stars. Classic. He knows it's a realistic depiction of somewhere but hasn't got the first clue about the place. Personally I believe Borat's depiction of Thingy-me-stahn is the most realistic depiction I've ever seen of a place like that ... wherever it might be
Hehe, exactly Very real depiction of a place I have never been to, full of people I can't understand.
Colourless, working class, in the north....somewhere aw, bless.</p> Just the sort of people who deserve to stay in the south forever.</p>
