It looks like I got it badly wrong last night and I can only apologise . . . "It's been disappointing to read some of the reaction," said Sunderland chief executive Margaret Byrne. "To accuse [Paolo Di Canio] now, as some have done, of being a racist or having fascist sympathies is insulting not only to him but to the integrity of this football club," added Byrne. "Anyone who has met Paolo and spoken with him personally, as we did in depth before making this appointment, will know that he is an honest man, a man of principle and a driven, determined and passionate individual." <img src="http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/66691000/jpg/_66691785_lzq5abb7.jpg"/>
I love the fact that none of these listed traits mean he can't be a fascist. "Anyone who has met Paolo and spoken with him personally, as we did in depth before making this appointment, will know that he is an honest man, a man of principle and a driven, determined and passionate individual."
Is it me or does he always look like a cartoon character .....like beavis n butthead for example ????? Not my favourite ex-player but probably in the bottom 3
Fascism as an ideology isn't as ludicrous as some suggest, people simply associate it with racism but that's not really part of it's mantra. If you look at the world today, most of the capitalist economies are struggling and probably will do for the next decade - after which another bubble will burst and the never ending cycle of recession will continue. The rich will get richer, and (in relative terms) the poor will become poorer. You can see why people will have massively different political views, why is this a bad thing?

This apointment has got all the makings of a disaster waiting to happen. Of course, PDC will try to behave immaculately at first, but there is bound to be the first explosion at a ref (don't get pushy, now, Paolo), or one of his own players - I bet Wes Foderingham won't be first in the queue to the Stadium of Light. At the best, it could be hilariously funny watching PDC rant and rave, but, at worst, it could be a disaster for premiership football and Sunderland Football Club in particular. I can just imagine the chants of "You're just a friend of the fuhrer" and the like and the chances are that, at some ground, in some match, maybe be not too far away, it will all prove too much and PDC will explode. Hilarious, or disastrous? Watch this space.
