Anybody on here have any experience or knowlege of the claims by old miners for lung diseases caused by their careers' underground?

Seven years on, my mother may get a payout for my dad's posthumous claim. (the lungs got him at 77years)

Does anyone know what the ballpark of the payout amounts was.

I understand that the insurers have come up with, 'mild Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - a disability assessment of 20%', in the twenty-eight page report. I'll see the report soon.

    Anybody been involved in this?

There are no hard and fast rules. I turned down the first offer (I spent 10 years down the mine in the 50's) gobbling dust. Also depends on your Solicitor
mine was Raleys. Must say they did a good job and I received a much better offer which I accepted.

But there are obligations on the system to settle all claims, fairly, if not generously. Any medical reports can be submitted as evidence.

    Do....

Do you think that I should reject/appeal the offer as a matter of routine? and try for a better second offer.

    RE: Do....

Only if its appears a 'pathetic' offer mine was. However your Solicitor should tell you if you should reject it. He has a general idea of the 'going rate'
But you must remember they could, effectively, offer less next time, not that this is the norm.

Ask your Solicitor, after all he will be getting a massive 'rake off' from the government for his services. (Incidently he can't charge you or deduct any fees from the settlement)

they've offered me £1057 for my dad, told me to accept it as it may drop to £400. not bad to say he died 25 years ago from an heart attack, nothing lung related

Some solicitors take a cut out of the payment to give to the N.U.M Raleys did from my fathers settlement.
