<div class="headingMain" id="ViewArticle1_divHeadline">Old systems go as Davey plans changes</div> <div class="firstpara" id="ViewArticle1_divFirstPara">CARETAKER manager Simon Davey was giving little away. Bossing the Championship team second from bottom, he can't afford to.</div> <div class="bodytext" id="ViewArticle1_divPageText" style="FONT-SIZE: 11px">Ahead of his first game in the Barnsley driving seat, the Welshman was pledging flexibility, players who wear the shirt with pride and to 'win ugly' if necessary. Davey's debut is not an easy one, he says. "Ipswich are coming here off a good result last weekend, they are a big club who have started to win games. "The chief scout (Martin Wilkinson) has watched them and we know to expect a tough game." And the 35-year-old Welshman is prepared to switch from former manager Andy Ritchie's preferred 4-4-2 line-up with wingers pressing forward. "I've got quite an open mind. We can operate 4-4-2 but if I think I've got the players suited better to another system I'll change it," he said. "We will also look at the opposition." Davey added: "Hopefully we can get points in the bag. The most important thing is the players now and we have to make sure that they wear that shirt with pride. "We don't have to please anyone but the board and the fans - and the way to do that is by collecting points." He expects to pick from a fully fit squad which will include yesterday's signings. "I've a fair idea of the team in my mind. There will be changes," Davey pledged. He will also have join top scorer Marc Richards back in the reckoning. Richards and midfielder Brian Howard have both scored five this season. Richards missed the 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace with a thigh injury. Davey has the option of bolstering his midfield with 29-year-old enforcer Ronnie Wallwork, who was a target for Ipswich boss Jim Magilton before agreeing a loan spell at Oakwell. Ipswich midfielder Gary Roberts has emerged as an injury doubt for the squad travelling to Oakwell. Roberts has been outstanding since arriving on loan from Accrington Stanley and is expected to sign a permanent £200,000 deal at Portman Road in January. Striker Billy Clarke is already ruled out with the ankle ligament damage he picked up on Sunday in the 3-1 win </div>
RE: Bye bye wingers why is it hoof ball, av u bin 2 training last 2 days, colgan hasnt booted ball out once, thrown ball out every time and davey makes them play it from back. with knight and nardiello up front 2moz we wont be booting ball up. mccann, togwell and wallwork and hayes in midfield and same back four. we've have got a coach in from bury who is highly rated and after training with the first team he kept behind the back for and worked with them for along time.
RE: Bye bye wingers o i yeh looked decent signings wallwork puts him self about in the tackle and mccann has class on the ball and takes a good free kick and corner, but just abit thinner, taller and faster version of howard. davey had colgan playing ball out to full back and tellin them how to get knight and nads in behind centre halfs. we wont be booting ball up field that is a fact into onto their heads and chest. and hes first coach at club in ages ive sin stop the game and tell players how to do things and where there going wrong and how to close other side down when there in position, in chronicle it shows all his qualifications and hes got them all. we will soon find out 2moz what will happen.
i just think people should give davey a chance but im not saying give him the job because i want a manager with experience in the championship, but davey could do a job short term till we get some 1 in
RE: Hes the assistant manager now as well! I thought it'd be a low profile cheap appointment but I didn't expect Davey.
Here,s an interesting interview with him, re Beckham and Moyes coaching methods http://www.pnefc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/LegendsDetail/0,,10362~532152,00.html
whats scares me in all this is that bloody Richards is classed fit again...............he has cost us more games this season......................
I have been to all the Academy home games this season. I know that Davey does not have the same access to players in the Accademy, but he has been playing a diamond for most of the season, even when this meant playing players out of position. He has won only 1 game (Liverpool away), but has an extremely young team that generally get overwhelmed by their opponent's strength. Nevertheless, the diamond got Hart sacked because it is dreadful to watch. God help us.
I'll also be booing from the bottom of my ethiopian style gut.</p> It all gets worse on a second by second basis.</p>
RE: Bye bye wingers FFS give em a chance. It might be hello some feckin points at last. Can't see us dispensing altogether with wingers though when we signed TWO yesterday.
