If England win or draw tomorrow then they are through. If they lose then they are out regardless of what France do. France could lose 10-0 giving them a bad GD and it will make no difference.

Draw or win and we are definitely through.

And to top the group we have to gain more points tomorrow than france do.

    I think

this takes the piss how they work out who goes through? why cant they just keep with the goal difference to see who goes through??????

if they did then russia would have gone through instead of greece.

p.s why would france go through instead of us if they lose 10-0 and we lose 1-0??????

I was wrong, france would go out. I worked it out that we would ignore the sweden results which would put france above us on goal difference (because they beat ukraine by 2 goals) but I forgot that if we lose then ukraine go on 6 points and the 'mini league' ignores them as well and we drew against france so it would become a normal league again.

In other words I havent a clue.

    Actually you've got that wrong

    Its quite well explained here
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18454917

but if we both lose Sweden have 3 points and are out
Ukrane have 6 points and are through

us and France both have 4 points - first criteria is goal diff in games between involved sides
thats just us and france and so that doesnt help

then its good old goal difference in all games

then goals scored in all games

so we need to win by one more than france to top the group
and lose by one less than france to get through if both lose

This was introduced to help ensure the integrity of the games and make sure there are no tactical draws like we have seen in other tournaments. To an extent it has worked but the downside is that these rules allowed Greece to progress at the expense of Russia so it's not without it's flaws.

If we lose and France lose then it's down to group GD and goals scored....if that's level we go through as we have higher UEFA co-efficient.

Can bet Platini will be getting the rules changed for next time if that happens!
