    Colchester take Parkinson action

Parkinson has been in charge at Layer Road since 2003
Colchester are taking legal action to prevent manager Phil Parkinson from leaving the club, reports BBC Essex.
The U's will apply for a High Court injunction against the 38-year-old, who resigned last week after guiding them to the Championship for the first time.

He has been linked with Hull City but the club has rejected his resignation and he still has a year on his deal.

Colchester say they also want to ensure they are fully compensated if he does move clubs before his contract expires.

Charlton, Ipswich and Derby were all denied permission to talk to Parkinson, who guided Colchester to second place in League One on a tight budget.

Colchester is taking this bold move because it fundamentally believes that even the football world has to take employment contracts seriously

    Club statement

The club insist they have nothing personal against Parkinson, who returned from a family holiday on Thursday, but are acting out of principle.

"The directors, management and fans continue to hold Phil in the highest regard," a statement from the U's read.

"The decision to seek an injunction to prevent him tearing up his contract is in part in a vain hope that he will change his mind.

"However, in truth it is more about the principle of ensuring that the process of a football club losing an excellent manager, albeit for all the right reasons, is conducted in the appropriate manner.

"Colchester is taking this bold move because it fundamentally believes that even the football world has to take employment contracts seriously. "

    would never happen at barnsley

no fecker has a contract here! we have it all in hand. Seriously though you can see there point of view, players cant just resign and go to another club for free so why should a manager they should be compensated. They would have to pay him off if they sacked him so why should he be able to walk into another club for free?
