aye. numbers that are completely out of our league. and if he scores the goal that gets them to the PL, it will have been worth every penny to them an all
Yes he’s on about ten times more than our highest earner and cost comfortably more than ten times the most expensive signing in our squad. He was still offside (I’ve seen every angle going several times and still can’t see how he wasn’t, but it was close so I’m not digging out the linesman) - and then given the freedom of S71 by Helik to turn in the box (cardinal sin) and cut inside onto his left foot (absolutely fatal). It was a good goal, but I don’t buy into this ‘true bit of quality’ rhetoric that’s been bandied around - we didn’t defend it properly at all. He didn’t do much else. That, and the fact that Sibbick kept Jamal Lowe pretty quiet, if anything grows my confidence for Saturday. They might well win handsomely Swansea - but I don’t see it likely. We have more than a punchers chance and in fact I don’t see Swansea as hot favourites, not much more than 50:50. We are well in the game.
The onside/offside debate will never really be settled - what I will say is it was too close to call it a linesman’s error either way. And yes, he finished it beautifully - but if an international centre back thinks he can stand a yard and a half off Andre Ayew - and couldn’t predict he’d try to turn and cut inside onto his left foot - there’s a bit of an issue. Good finish, naive defending. He didn’t need to be touch close, he’d have rolled him and/or gone down to buy a foul, but he could and should have been close enough to stop him turning as easily, and shown outside onto his right foot down the wing rather than inside. Maybe I’m being harsh, but I’m a big fan of Michal Helik and think he should have done a lot better. To be honest since his Poland call ups he’s not looked quite as good in my eyes - though he isn’t alone.
Imho anyone who wants solly in over Sibbick (for this game) needs to re watch how well Sibbick played Lowe. His pace definately negated the swans attacker more than a few times.
It wasn't great defending, no doubt about, but you could say that about 99% of goals that go in. The problem with players like Ayew is that if you get too tight, he'll knock it past you and put you on your arse at will. It was a lovely finish from a class act.
Easy to say in retrospect though. Was a lovely bit of play and finish. And how many international defenders can we say that about week in week out in the PL with goals conceded. Ayew showed his class with that one piece of play, and it made all the difference.
From people in the know down here, his wages are £100k/wk. Swansea have offloaded most of their high earners post-Premier league but couldn’t get a buyer for him. Think he’s better than his brother personally. Their wages went off the scale in the PL for a club their size. Ashley Williams was the biggest benefactor as he had it written into his contract that he was the highest paid player at the club. They managed to stay in the PL for 7 years and with the better calibration player they bought, they increased their wages, and Williams, accordingly - eventually ending with Wilfred Bony (and an ageing Ashley Williams lol) earning £120k/wk. Eye watering - particularly as Bony was rumoured to be 4 or 5 years older than stated and finished as a player. They’ve had to cut their cloth accordingly in recent years (hence the young players and loaners) and, tbh, they’ve done very well - much better than I expected.
£4m (£78k pw) or £1.8m.(£36kpw) Either way a nice earner. Footballs fooked. If he’s worth that, I wonder what Ivan Toney could command
Yeah I had a debate on Twitter with a Swansea fan who was saying how well he’d done with the resources he’s had avail to him and tried to compare it to Val. Which i found laughable considering their wage bill is about 5 times ours and we hadn’t won a game in 7 at the start of the season.
Yea ive just 're found the article but not clever enough to put it on here....its £80 k per week....and why hes worth it.
