Shocking. I always thought he was ***** reffing us in the Championship. Now he's making shocking decisions in the Premiership. That could be Seb Stockbridge in a couple of years. Edit - Lawro and Hartson both saying definite penalty. The game we love(d) is dead.
Not sure what you are referring to and whilst I agree Mariner is not the greatest ref in the world (his reaction to how to handle the situation was priceless when Huddersfield and Barnsley players refused to compete allowing us both to stay up under Flicker) ....BUT on what planet was the Benteke fowl not a penalty?
Great decision.. especially if you'd got £10 on Liverpool next goal AND £10 on a penalty being awarded in the game
I also think it was definitely a foul on Benteke, soft, but every bit a penalty. Only one person to blame and that was the clown who went sliding in on him. Yes, he pulled out, but was too late by then. Pardew making his mouth too just makes him look silly. If one of his players is fouled in the box next week for exactly the same thing, and it isn't given he'll go berserk.
100% definitely a penalty. Its been a weekend of stupid managerial quotes. Pardew reckoning refs shouldnt give penalties in the 94th minute and LVG thinking certain players should never be sent off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Agreed, anyone that thinks that was a penalty has either never played the game, or been so seduced by the Premier League/Sky narrative b*llshit that they've become wilfully blind to the bleedin' obvious. Back in t'day when I was playing in the local leagues, if I'd done what Benteke did to try to win a penalty (or any decision) I'd have been lucky to leave the pitch/ground without getting my teeth knocked out. And I'd have deserved it. For being a cheating lovely person. As for the endless shower of pundits lining up to justify Benteke's actions, or the refs decision, they're a fine example of why so many people have come to loathe the game these days.
Anyone that thinks that wasnt a penalty needs to get to specsavers. He's caught his foot, maybe not very hard but it has still knocked him from his 100% natural balance and impeded his ability to get the ball. Checks every box you look for when giving a foul. And I hate Liverpool. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It is, but when impede a players ability to play to advantage yourself, its a foul and there is no question Delaneys challenge does just that. Its one of the most clear cut penalties you'll see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Does he play the ball? No. Does he play the man? Yes. End of discussion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
End of discussion lol. More like the end of football as a sport with even an ounce of integrity. Christ alive with apologists like you around it's no wonder so many players are happy to be such unashamed cheats.
When I saw it Sunday I thought it was a dive - but I was looking at Delaney's knee which he pulls back - I didn't notice his other knee on the ground catches Benteke's foot. Definite Penalty - daft challenge.
He doesn't play the man. He goes to ground and then tries to withdraw, catching him with his trailing knee/thigh. Yes there was contact but it has to be sufficient contact for it to be considered a foul. If that was a foul then practically every challenge is.
So he plays the man. Is the contact enough to take Benteke's full ability to play the ball away from him? Yes. Does that give the defender an unfair advantage? Yes. Its a nailed on penalty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm with you on this one Conan. It's wrong, completely, but sadly this is what constitutes a foul in the premier league these days. It's the slightest of contacts, only seen on the slowest of replays. If a bloke, with the stature of Benteke can't stay perfectly balanced from a contact as mild as that, then there's something seriously wrong with his balance. It's a dive. Whether there's contact or not. However it seems in this day and age, it can only be classed as a dive if there's no contact whatsoever. Sent from my I-Oven using the internets
At the very, very least it would unbalance him when in full flight like he was. I just cant see any angle to make an argument its not 100% a penalty. Either way, Delaney dives in, doesnt touch the ball and plays the man. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
