His performance in tonight's match was possibly the best I've ever seen by any player in a single game. Just amazing. Russia were spineless without him in the first two games, but look at them now... Now that Croatia are out, I hope that Russia win the whole thing.
Agreed. Compare and contrast with the laboured overpaid lumps that are supposedly our country's best.
Can't think of any Englishman with the combination of pace, skill, and speed of thought to get anywhere near that Russian team.
Top class player. Makes me laugh when people talk about Rooney as the best player in the world when there are players like him around. Our players are so over rated. When it comes to the international game our players are miles behind.
Will Arsenal do for you http://www.people.co.uk/sport/footb...objectid=20617390&siteid=93463-name_page.html Arse Shaving would be a excellent signing by Arsene.
Hmm, that's a bit harsh. There are some very good English players of course, but just not enough at the moment. But you have a good point though, I can't actually think of too many WORLD CLASS English players... The Premier League is full of foreign stars, so the homegrown players only get a chance to play in the lower/mid-table Premier League teams or lower divisions. Only the very best English players get to play regularly in the top clubs, but that's barely enough for the national team. England will have a pretty good team if all the players are fully fit and not banned, but even then the manager won't have too many players to choose from. When some certain players are almost guaranteed to be in the starting eleven every time, I wonder what it does for their motivation and passion for playing... Perhaps Capello will get the best out of the current England team and take the team to the World Cup 2010, but it won't be easy. Another thing that I've noticed is that English players hardly ever play for foreign clubs. I wonder why's that? Croatia for example are a very small nation, but the players in their national team play in very good clubs all around Europe, and it's quite obvious that they're benefitting from it.
I'm not a fan of Arsenal or anything, but I think they could be an ideal club for Arshavin to play for... that is, if he really wants to play in the Premier League. Arsenal's attacking tactics might suit his own style better, and he could probably get a chance to play more regularly there as well. Oh, and I don't hate Arsenal as much as I hate Man United or Chelsea
Probably because most of the English players are greedy ***** and would rather sit on the bench picking up their money than actually go out and PROVE themselves.
I think it is down to the international players being better technically. They understand how to keep the ball because that is the traditions of their game nationally. Our traditions are in getting the ball forward quickly and playing at a 100mph. It makes our domestic league the most exciting in the world, which in turn drives the media to think that we must have the best players, the media then drive that into us, when really its a load of rubbish. The foreign players that come to England become stars because they are better than most of our players. Our players dont go abroad (and never really have) because they aren't as good. Can't hide from it. The England side shows this perfectly. While other nations with players who are less rated in club football do well we continually fail. We are about 11/12th in the world rankings and I think that is being generous. If the 6 Englishman rule comes in the entire footballing pyramid in this country will be dumbed down as less talented footballers move up to fill team/squad places. (By the way, I know it is not that simplistic, I could write a dissertation on this subject).
RE: I've never heard anyone talk about Rooney as being the best player in the world nt Earlier this week some people on this board said that of the current Russian team, only Arshavin would have a place in the English team. I know that local media always likes to hype up the own country and its players, but I think the real question is that how many of the current England team would fit into the Russian national team at the moment...
