Andy Cole has been ruled out of Birmingham's game against Burnley on Saturday with a hamstring injury.
It was hoped the 35-year-old striker would be fit to make his first appearance for The Blues since joining on loan from Portsmouth in March.
However, a recent scan has shown a tear to the muscle and he will now face another fitness check ahead of the Easter Monday clash with Barnsley at Oakwell.
"Scans showed up a small tear, which is disappointing for us and for Andy, of course," said manager Steve Bruce.
"We were hoping that he would be fine for the Burnley game, but it's not too serious, so hopefully he could be okay for Barnsley."
