Andy Giddings and Radio Sheffield

I also heard the interaction between the Reds fan and the station. What you're saying on this board is nothing but paranoia. Giddings tried to put his side across ie. that there was a problem at the Leeds game ergo couldn't say for absolute certainty that Barnsley were safe. The caller wouldn't listen AND had already made his mind up as to what had been said consequently wasn't open for a reasoned discussion.

Reds fans have a cognitive bias of suspicion and hostility towards all things Sheffield.

Similarly Blades believe that the Sheffield council is choc full of Wednesdayites, mind you that bits true

    :D :D

Just celebrate your success this season

    to be absolutely fair...

...I was listening to the show as it went out live and you could make no mistake that Giddings thought thatthe Leeds result had no effect on Barnsley - he even said after the Davies interview 'I'll have to get my maths sorted out' or words to that effect. It wasn't a case of 'Champagne back on ice for Barnsley as we await the final whistle at Elland road'. He had clearly failed to do his home work. All the points about the coverage are totally fair - even when our position was secured and the result had been confirmed at Elland road he persisted with the 'Leicester win at Barnsley - how do you feel about that?'... overall the coverage was slack and lets face it, they don't cover barnsley for sheffield united fans, they cover it for barnsley fans - and it was a big let down.

Its not about bias in my opinion - its about unprofessionalism

    in relation to BFC.

You could argue that there is an intrinsic bias as a result - because the same level, or lack of professionalism would not have been applied to Sheff Weds or Sheff U.

point taken. I'm not bothered one way or another about Radio Sheff or Giddings. I just felt that the caller reminded me of every Mr Pedant I've ever come across. To be honest I felt he just seemed a bit prattish.

Yes but my point is, I'm sounding like Mr Pedant now (see what you've done), it's almost like Barnsley fans are poised to swoop for any perceived slur when none is intended. If you look hard enough for offence to be given you will find it.

Not wanting to personalise this but you have a contributor on here who seems hypervigilant to imagined slights and then you all line up dutifully behind him/her.

Your West Brom away game should be some celebration. Enjoy.

At 5-30 pm approx he said reds fans how do you feel now knowing your team still has issues?

For a minute I thought the once mighty Leeds must have scored a late winner.

i see what you mean. i agree, there is a wisdom (misconstrued in my mind) that there is a bias against barnsley. it doesn't change the fact that the coverage yesterday was nothing short of pathetic and its unsurprising when people think it is an effort to conspire against when it consistently happens.

In my mind its the nature of being a so called small club, I don't think there's any malice in it - although it definitely happens. But I couldn't care less, in fact I wouldn't change it for the world.

Cheers, delighted we have made it and think we have deserved it - hope you stay up, looking good now - although I thought lady luck was on your side yesterday, must have been a bit of a hairy game?

Thanks for that. The thing is if we survive then we somehow have to get quality into the team. Fans are divided on Warnocks tenure at the club, I think battling like mad only goes so far but it's worked quite well this season. Hulse and Jagielka apart the rest are just bloody good professionals led lionlike by Morgan.

Kilgallon, Shelton and Ahmed Fahti may well be the answer

    "Davies"?

Sharron Davies, the swimmer? WTF does she know about football?

Or do you mean Simon Davies that scored today for Fulham? WTF would he know about our situation before our own Manager Simon Davey?

Not to mention the fact that on teletext it said Barnsley had lost to... Barnsley. While on ITV text it said that Barnsley had drawn 1-1 with Leicester which meant we were "virtually safe".

Was listening to Radio Sheff after the match and it really pissed me off. The guy didn't have a clue and obviously didn't care.

People should e-mail/ write and complain.

It was shambolic reporting and inaccurate. I was fuming, how could they not have done their research?
