He keeps putting in strong performances and leading the line often as a lone striker in a team that has not got the necessary quality in other areas to make the lone striker formation a constant success but he does it and weighs in with goals and assists and is one of our most consistent performers this season and does not deserve the stick he gets on here from some folk who can't see past their nose end keep it up Andy.

    No !!!

Didn't go last night because of other commitments...........but..........I've seen Gray a number of times this season, and although he could be described as one of the better workers at the club, he just dosent possess the speed or height / strength that causes defences many problems. If we are to play with one striker up front then that striker has to be QUALITY.

Davies or Haynes offer more in the lone striker role. They both have been out injured. Davies is still trying to get match fit.
There has been times this season where TARN just dont look like they are able to score.

If we play two strikers to compensate for Grays lack of fire power then that usually means Butters is pushed out wide........according to reports on here this is what happened against Hull and it seems that Butters had a quite game.
In my opinion the current best line up would be..........Haynes..........Davies..............O'Brien
With Butters sat at the back of them

    Re: No !!!

We beat a team that had been unbeaten in 9, with Gray and Davies up front and Butterfield wide. Gray and Davies both scored, and Gray set Davies up for his goal while Gray was the quickest to react to their keeper spilling the ball. Neither striker could have done any more, and the longer Davies plays at this level the more likely he'll be to finish the chances like he missed last night as well.

Whilst last night's game doesn't sort our season, last Saturday's didn't end it.

Butterfield is a problem - a bit like Hignett where we can argue all day long about whether he's better centrall or wide - and I'm not saying Butterfield = Hignett before anyone jumps on that.

To be fair when Butterfield was wide right I thought he did well - I thought the central pairing also did well until we started to drop deeper at 2-0 up.

People can bairn on all day long about the perceived lack of quality in our strikers, but within our financial constraints, within the squad available, on the whole we aren't doing too badly over the season so far. The odd game either good or bad does not define our season.

Davies to me doesn't look to have the quality we need to hold the ball up/bring other people into play. Maybe it'll come, if it does then he'll be a great player cos he clearly knows how to get into scoring positions. Gray looked a class apart from Davies last night for me.

With the bit I've seen of Davies this season.........I think we have quality here

.............this guy, when fully fit will be a handful to Championship teams.
This will become more evident when Haynes gets back, and with O'Brien playing as good as he is now we have a decent strikeforce there.
The problem is we haven't any back up players if they get injured or suspended

i hope so, he's already proved he can score goals (should've had 2 or 3 more to be fair), if he can start to do some of the basics a bit better then he'll be great for us

Not all strikers are good at holding up the ball - Gray can hold it up and Davies can bang them in. Jobs a good un

Gray has put in strong performances this season and continues to score goals. Gray has been the easy target to blame when we haven't played well this season and I feel this has been unfair. Gray creates chances and holds the ball up well. He isn't an out and out striker and never has been. He has played where Hill has asked him to and I feel done well looking at the season so far.

Andy Gray is one of the most underrated players we have had in ages. His work rate and ability to dust himself off when he misses a couple of chances should be commended. He will never be the best player we are going to have BUT if he scored 10-15 goals a season AND continues his linkup play with Butterfield and Davies in particular people can't really moan.

Played like he didn't want to be here and not the Danny Haynes we saw at the Keepmoat or Brammall Lane, l'd start Gray ahead of a fit Haynes every day of the week at the moment.
