unless he is on a third of the money he is now and he would be a good bench warmer to bring on for the last 20 mins ????

Can't believe we are giving him a new deal, and whilst I'm on the soap box......Frank Nouble, Hill may bring him in permanent at the end of the season - Christ Almighty have we lost the plot ???

Rather see RNL or Rose playing and given a run in the 1st team

His legs have gone? Look forward to seeing a torso gliding around the pitch next season.

Because Hill wants a striker who can't score regular goals, doesn't jump, has no pace and will be 35 during next season.

    1. May be we are not as skint as the Club and Hill make out.

    2. He wants an experienced "model pro" around the Club to serve as a good example to and help bring on the youngsters who are going to be in the squad next season.

    3. Hill as a Professional Football Club Manager still rates Andy and thinks he can still do a job for him.

    4. He thinks fans are reasonably intelligent and that they can understand why he would want to keep him, referring to 1, 2, and 3 above.

Manlito - yes except some of your points but aren't forwards supposed to score goals

Gray has all the pints you said but surely why waste money on wages on a bloke who can't score goals and legs have obviously gone for this league.

He'd be perfect at Rotherham or Chesterfield but in this league Douglas Barder would do just as good a job on the pitch.

Dont let the 7 goals he's scored this season get in the way of you slagging him off.

I think scoring seven goals is one of the reasons he is being slagged off. Yet you see it as a point in his favour. How very strange.

Wath said he couldn't score - the stats say he can. How very strange.

I think you know what he meant.

Still, if you have such low demands and expectations you will rarely be disappointed.

7 goals in 23 appearances, just over 1 in 3 is no disgrace especially when 6 appearances where coming off the bench and probably several more he was taken off. Take into consideration he has been offered a new deal on reduced terms and the experience he can probably pass onto the youngsters in the squad then i personally believe its not as bad as some seem to think, we could certainly do a lot worse

Nowt to do with low expectations and demands - the OP stated he cant score, he has scored. Not as many as we'd all like him to but as KP as stated, his record aint too shabby.

It ain't shabby - it's *****. 20 goals in 94 appearances. He hasn't scored for almost three months. I can't even remember his last meaningful attempt on goal. If we see this kind of player as an asset then the future is bleak.

He's been playing in a team on a poor run who collectively havent been scoring. As Manilto points out there are very good reasons for keeping Gray, I can see them and I believe Hill has made the right decision.

I know I shouldn't, but I'm going to have to say something

What are andy Gray's main assets

    Pace?
The ability to turn the defence?
    Goal poaching?
    Holding the ball up?
    Working the back four?
    Bullying his marker?
Getting on the end of crosses?
    Linking with his partner?
The ability to operate as a lone man up front.
    Winning headers?
Coming off his man and making space in behind?
    Movement off the ball?

I see very little of any of any of that

I agree we should keep him on vastly reduced terms but that is a nonsense post HT. He may come out well in aerobic fitness tests but that isn't the point when discussing his legs. Beckham is still one of the fittest around but nobody would argue he is as mobile as he once was.

Sorry but Andy Gray being offered a new contract is embarrassing,he never has and never will be good enough for this level. For a club who moan about having no money giving a player who is obviously going to offer little/no threat up front a new contract is bad business.
I've seen Rose play one game and saw more of a threat from him than the numerous seasons Gray has been here.

I'm really torn on this one. The biggest factor for me in letting him go is freeing up considerable wages to be reallocated elsewhere.

Having said that, 7 goals from not many starts isn't bad at all in the championship. That just 4 less than Le Fondre this season.

He scores goals in the box, often headers or getting ahead of markers from crosses. And thats the key. Our crossing this season has often been poor. Especially at set pieces.

Better service into the box and we'd up our goals tally and so would Gray. We've also struggled getting goals from the centre backs too which highlights the poor set pieces. McNulty, Foster, Edwards... even Addison should have chipped in much more than just 3 goals (and one of those from McNulty was open play when he was playing in midfield).

If we can get him at drastically reduced terms I'd give it a go. He seems a good professional and if that helps teach the kids coming through that shouldn't be forgotten.

Andy Gray has been a good player at this level..

There is a fair and good argument that he should not be retained but to say he's never been good enough at this level is absolute rubbish in my opinion. Sunderland, Burnley, Sheff Utd list amongst his former clubs. Personally I believe if he was allowed to just be a goal poacher in the 6 yard box he would be more productive, but it seems not many teams play strikers just in that role nowadays. I agree about Rose being a threat he should be let off the leash now and we should've let Nouble return to West Ham. Watch him score today.
