"Does he deserve to get sent off for that?" He DIDN'T get sent off for it, he got booked for it! It is a bookable offence and whether booked or not already should make no difference!
Completely agree. I bet if he hadnt already been booked, i wonder what Andy gray would have said about him getting a booking then! Abet he would have agreed with REF!
Think Andy Gray was right - Bennett took it miles too far. If Mascherano had been ranting and raving at him, fine. But he wasn't. He was laughing, and asking why he had booked Torres. Torres' booking was an absolute disgrace - booked for asking why he was being allowed to be kicked all over the field. Mascherano was booked for laughing and saying "What's happening?" Like Andy Gray said, if Mascherano had been ranting and raving in his face, then fine. But he wasn't. It was a stupid decision. Why should Liverpool be penalised for something now that other teams have got away with completely all season? Bennett was 4th official on Wednesday and has panicked. Sorry, but if what Javier Mascherano just did is worth the same as what Ashley Cole did to Alan Hutton and Mike Riley, the footballing world has gone mad. If we're turning it into a non-contact AND silent sport, then lets just announce it. Wayne Rooney's got away with saying a lot worse. Bennett should have called Gerrard over as captain and said "If he gets in my face once more, I'll book him." He didn't appear to warn Mascherano on any of the occasions previous where he'd spoke to him. Its the inconsistencies that make referees so hated - and I'm now sitting here watching Man Utd being handed the Championship by a referee who must have had the only decent game of his career when we met Chelsea.
The Ashley Cole Situation...... as probably resulted in refs clamping down harder than usual. Things will be back to normal next week.
Oh... And if ANYONE, tries to claim that Fernando Torres deserved his booking, you're morons. That kickstarted the whole situation, and it was a ******* woeful decision.
so because ashley cole tried to break someones leg and then abused a referee that means everyone should be allowed to do whatever they want. two wrongs...
So you know exactly what was said then? Because with Torres it looked a case of what was said rather than him just continuing to mouth off, the ref went for the pocket quickly after one thing was said. So if the player swore or called the ref "cheat" or similar then that should be a straigh yellow card. "He didn't appear to warn Mascherano on any of the occasions previous where he'd spoke to him." What else was he doing then, asking what he had for breakfast?
Mascherano wasn't shouting. Torres wasn't shouting. Why has he booked Fernando Torres? Please explain that to me, and we'll see where we can go from there. Torres didn't get in his face, he got up from being kicked and just told the referee that its happening every time he gets the ball. Yellow card. Nonsense.
Torres made a gesture with his hand that seemed to suggest that he was listening to what the Man Utd players were saying. If we're booking people for that, and not booking Wayne Rooney for shouting "******* *****" everytime he's near a referee, how is that consistent? I'd be interested to see what Rooney said when he wasn't awarded a penalty in the first few minutes.
Liverpool have been victimised... due to the behaviour of Chelsea's players on Wednesday, and other clubs throughout the season. They were robbed of 3 points against Chelsea at Anfield by a joke of a referee, and robbed of the chance of any sort of result here by a referee who is panicking after being the 4th official on Wednesday night. Mascherano was stupid - but the referee was a damn sight worse for booking Torres in the first place. On that note, Steven Gerrard just called the referee a "******* joke". Was he booked? Consistency.
Why shouldn't he? Is it a silent game? Players talk to referees throughout the game - he was making a point that he was getting kicked every single time he had the ball. It was bloody obvious!
so this time its because rooney hasnt been sent off that palyers should be allowed to do what they like. I'll tell you what, save everyone a lot of time and find the worst tackle you've ever seen go unpunished, tell us what it is and we'll set the benchmark for what is a booking there shall we.
Hardly the point. I'm making the point that referees are inconsistent and thats what causes the problem. Clearly you think referees are always right, and generally are brilliant at their job.
They are. If they play for Man Utd or Chelsea. If you're telling me that would have been given at Anfield to a Liverpool player, or to a Man Utd player at Old Trafford, you're kidding yourself.
I didn't say it would, i said it was justified, you're the only one saying it wasnt because it wouldnt have been given to someone else. i'm sure that you are arguing the wrong thing, you should be saying the ref that didnt send off cole etc were in the wrong, not the ones that DO book players for dissent as per the rules.
RE: Why shouldn't he? Errr....so it's ok to mouth at the ref? He didn't just stop at that though did he? He continued with it. I don't see why players feel the need to complain to the ref when they've already been awarded the free kick. How do you know he didn't swear at the ref or call him a cheat? It was pretty clear it was what Torres said as he turned away.
If you book people for dissent, you have to be CONSISTENT. Thats my point. You can't just suddenly decide on the 23rd March to start doing it when you've ignored it all season, and even ignored it from other players during the same bloody game.
