    Really?

But he's such a good tennis player - and so young.
Good luck to him, that's what I say.

    Why?

Just saying what I heard on Radio 5 this morning when they were discussing it.

Said that she has nobody to leave it to, can't take it with her so donating it - great, well done to her but it's hardly going to leave her penniless.

I like roddick.. ever since John Malkovitch issued the ftwah against her because she actually made comments in support of the Palestinians.

Good for her. Better than all those celebs appearing on telethons asking everyone else to part with their monrey.

    Jesus, what a fu*king fluffy ;)

Imagine what would happen if these fat bloating companies started reinvesting their profits in people and society instead of merely heralding their yearly profits and some kind of 'success'.........

Anita Roddick is no angel, but hey its a start.

    No angel ...

... but a lot more honourable, charitable and compassionate than most of us on here eh? Me included.

    You sit there

with your Local Government job with your Local Government protected final salary pension scheme pontificating about everyone and everything. You are a joke man. How easy is it to critisise others when you do sod all yourself. Risk takers go out of there way to set up companies, work their ****** off to get a reasonable standard of living for their families - and a lot more families besides, while you sit there telling everybody what tossers they are. I would have so much more respect for you and your opinions if you were'nt expressing them from behind the safety of a cushy desk job and a lifestyle that nine out of ten would give their right arms for. Oh don't tell me, you only take 10% of your salary while donating the rest to your many good causes. Yeh right.

True, but then we dont have the luxury of giving £51m away whilst knowing her hubby has another £50 in the bank........but point taken.

    RE: You sit there

    A few sweeping generalisations there:)

Nowt wrong with small businesses who take a few risks earning a corn. I think Acky was probably meaning plcs who are well beyond that stage and who's main concern is pay outs to shareholders.

Also not all local government jobs are cushy. Many are poorly paid in comparison to private sector jobs hence I've no probs with them getting a decent pension at the end.

Don't you think it's up to the shareholders themselves how much of their dividends they donate to charitable causes?

    'Sweeping generalisation'?

His specific barbed comment was made in reference to an individual who barely 25 years ago set up a company that now employs thousands, who is electively giving away £50 million to charity. So what that she has a few quid left. Don't tell me, she only gets on Acky's role of honour if she gives the lot away and lives in a cardboard box. And anybody who has the time to spend as much time as he does scanning the posts on here has it cushy in my opinion.

    RE: You sit there

Well you're into difficult territory there with subjective judgments about depending on what "excess profits" are and on what the business does.
