Anyone else having calls from a company in preston that won't give you any information until you confirm the first line of your address? Long shot I know but it's pissing me off now.
I did ... he refused as they already had and I'd "oviously being avoiding it". Tried to use the data protection act on me which is why I asked him to do that. 1471 shows it as 001 772 557 600. And BT were frigin usless.
WARNING.... do not when phoned confirm anything about yourself... obviously they are ringing you, and it is up to them to confirm to you that they have got the person they want to speak to. Imagine the "phishing" but instead of completing an online form, you are actually telling them over the phone... But as previously stated, ask them to send you a letter and you will respond if you so wish. after all they claim to have your address, so if they have, they should have no problem in sending it out to you, all this talk of ensuring that they are talking to the correct person is B*ll*cks (fair enough if you are ringing them, but thats not the case) I had the same from a finance company (supposedly), and they wanted to know my address DOB etc, in other words, all the info they need to make a false application. Just be careful, as you wouldn't give any info out to a stranger on the street, so why any different if it was a phone call or on the net
However... Where I work the person answering has to confirm address and DOB when we ring, though they should have received a letter or ten. It is up to the person answering to prove who they are, else the comapny's IS breaking DPA. They surely have to say the name of the company though? If people look up our place they'll know what they're dealing with, plus if they ring up there's a recorded message saying where they've called. If there's none of that, then there's summat funny going on.

RE: However... yes but, by the sounds of it, you are talking about somethign that the customer will know whythey are calling (i am assuming you are one of the debt collection agency callers) and from that sense, you know straight away that you have previously dealt with them. I was talking from the angle that a company calls you who you have not dealt with, thats when you need to be carefull. In all instances, common sense is needed
