    Starting a job in York.

What is the commute like from Barnsley, i.e. Wombwell, to York off A64 near Park and Ride before you get to the Racecourse?
    I will go via Marr, A1 & A64.

Are u working in City Centre? I worked at York Hospital from 2002-4 and commuted from Carlton. Varied from 45 minutes to 1 he 15 depending on traffic, my route was going clockwise around the ring road, past Clifton Moor. Go by train on race days!

Might be better down Dearne Valley Parkway then through Houghton to Hemsworth then on the new road (A6021) to the A1....

My parents travel up from Wath in rush hour once a fortnight to look after my daughter. They come up the A1. Nowhere near as busy as the M1 and avoids the awful M621 junction. You'll be going against the worst of the traffic on the A64 too.

As Scoff said but then get off A1 onto old A1 to Brotherton, use by-pass round Sherburn-in-Elmet and turn left onto A64 just outside Tadcaster.
That way you miss the A1/M1 intersection and the A1/A64 junction and also cut about 6 miles off your journey.
