Just got home from witnessing another capitulation. The personnel were changed around (Colgan, Nyatanga, Jones, Hayes all started) but the same sorry performance still resulted. The writing was on the wall after 3 minutes. Pacy winger vs Heckingbottom = embarrassing result (he looked like he was going backwards), cross to the far post, neat finish, 1-0. After that, apart from a brief spell where Jones had a shot from the edge of the area saved, it was one way traffic. For the most part we looked clueless, lumping aimless high balls forward in the hope that Ferenczi (looking totally isolated) would get on the end of them and do something. That we only went in at half-time 2-0 down was down to the crossbar and a quite astonishing reflex save from Colgan. What a pity he couldn't keep the ball on the pitch whenever he kicked it. The second half produced more of the same. Bizarrely, we then had a glimmer of hope in the 79th minute after Nardiello, on a sub, hit a fantastic free kick into the top corner in what was the only other shot on target I can remember. The optimism lasted for all of two minutes before Ipswich were 3-1 up (we had by then switched to three at the back). Soon after it was 4-1 and I followed a horde of pissed off Reds fans out of the turnstiles. It came as little surprise to hear on the radio that they'd scored again. Basically, it was another performance under Davey's tenure where we simply waved the white flag in surrender after conceding early. A couple of players (Kyel Reid being one) played with a bit of passion. However, they were few and far between. In short, it was utter ***** from start to finish. We'll be lucky to finish mid-table in League 1 next season playing like we did today, never mind contemplating being able to stay up. Ipswich are an average side in this league, yet we made them look like world-beaters. At least my journey home was only 2 hours or so. I feel sorry for those who did double that to witness today's events.
Spot on. No passion, no fight. Even the likes of Hassle ( a contender for player of year earlier in season ) have given up; shame we paid £28 and travelled miles for a no show again...I am sick of our lack of team spirit and clueless tactics...Davey is a joke and we have been sold down the river.
