Why when it gets a misty or a bit foggy do people think they have to turn on high density rear fogs, there were loads today that felt it was perfectly clear enough to belt about at the maximum speed limit but at the same time had their chuffing fog lights on. Might just be me I suppose but they really grab my eyes and annoy me
Even worse are those who drive around with the headlamps all wonky. Ie one headlamp pointing down and as much use ad a chocolate fireguard. And the other point upwards so that it blinds everyone in front for about 10 miles. Oh and the ones who just don't know how to tighten a couple of screws so they stop ****ing wobbling about. That a decent enough whinge
I've taken up cycling as my main method of getting around over the last couple of months. Never really felt in any danger apart from over the past few days. The number of people who think that it's acceptable to zoom around like Lewis Hamilton when you can barely see your hand in front of your face is terrifying.
And people who drive in fog with sidelights. If I see the car before the lights, what is the point of having the lights on?
I m talking about conditions where you could comfortably see a cars ordinary lights at a good distance, should also have said most of it was A1/A19 so no real problem with cyclists
This really winds me up. The streets around my school seem to have a climate all of their own. They are foggy most of the time anyway even when it is sunny elsewhere, so when there is fog about generally visibility is almost non-existent. However, hardly anyone has any lights on even though seeing 100yards away is almost impossible. Last night, around 6pm some cars had no lights on. They should have had them on anyway as it was dark, never mind the thick fog too.
Most people's lights come on automatically these days and leave their headlight selector in Auto - I haven't mechanically turned my headlights on in about 10 years. Whilst this is not an acceptable excuse it does offer an explanation for why the number of people driving in fog with no headlights on is increasing - if the car companies add these convenience devices they should be clever enough to work out it's foggy as well as when it's dark. But of course this in no-way excuses drivers from failing to drive safely - or considerately for the people behind. It does seem that people dont' know how to use the rear fog light correctly - it was never part of my driving test - and I don't know whether it is now - so why should they?. They seem to deploy it like some secret James Bond style weapon to protect them from the fog rather than to warn the guy behind you that you are there. The only thing most rear fog lights seem to achieve is burning the retinae out of people behind or confusing people into thinking you're breaking randomly.
