The public gets what it deserves

There must be a demand for it. Whilst everyone buggers off to Meadowhall for other stuff

    Charity shops
    bookmakers
    Pubs
    Greggs
    pound shops
    Cash converters

Think that covers it for Barnsley town centre.

To be fair it is going up market from a 99p store

Oh and I think the reasons its another poundland I believe is due to private landlords, private business and capitalism. Lowest common denominator coming into play.

The reason it's another Poundland is because it was a 99p Store and they've been taken over by Poundland - sod all to do with the council, they don't approve takeovers.

I just dont get this have a go at the present council incharge routine
if those spouting of did some research theyd find that most of the property that makes up the town centre is held by private landlords/firms
Norwich union own the majority. The problem relates back to the early 60s when the town centre was sold off. Certain companies unfortunately have barnsley council by the balls hence it takes so long to get any where when it comes to new build.

Dont believe me ....pop into the planning department and do some research

sir steve and the guys are doing the best they can

That's why compulsory purchase orders are very useful.... As it stands we are going to get a half shiny new town centre. then everything across from the current metropolitan centre swuch as Boots etc are all privately owned so will stand out like a sore thumb once the new sections are complete. Council should have CPO'd the enitre town centre, at least a third of which could be knocked down and just become public space as we will have all we need with the Alhambra, Markets and the new Boulevard they are creating...
