Brundle has just had a word with Bernd Maylander who said that the safety car is left ticking over for the entire race so that if there is an accident he can go straight out. Is that really necessary? I mean seriously how long does it take to start that car that would compromise safety?

Mechanical sympathy, more likely to do damage to the engine if you drive it "cold"

I have no idea if that's the reason why though.

The daft thing is the safety car is probably faster than the race cars
