All them half suitcases with wheels that people take on planes as hand luggage. Not exactly suitable on your lap on the plane when getting your book and sweets out. Does my nut in. Should be soft bags only.

I take them on short trips, but once it's in the overhead compartment, it stays there.

At least then I don't have to wait around at the airport for luggage.

You obviously dont do any business travel then

I dont do as much as I used to but when you are flying several times a month you soon get very fedup with having to get to the airport early to check baggage and then waiting at the other end for your bag to hopefully arrive - knowing that every so often it wont be there - especially if you had to make a connection.

I have one of them which fits the baggage measuring devices and goes in the overhead locker and doesnt come down again until we land - its not hard to get your book out before boarding the plane.

What does annoy me is people that take the piss though and come on with 2 or 3 bags.

I've got one I was considering taking to Florida tomorrow but I wouldn't want to have 2 cases (that and my main one). I generally take a beach bag as carry on.

I blame airlines that charge for checked luggage. Travelling in the US is a pain because people just have massive carry-ons as a result of airlines charging for even just 1 bag. Folk just take the piss.

Also agree about folk having to get stuff out. Is it that difficult to hold your book as you get on the plane?

KLM have started charging £11 or £12 per flight for taking checked luggage, I'd rather spend £11 on travel sized toiletries which last a good few trips!

US Airways for flights within the US - $50! So that was $100 for me and ar lass for cases that were free on the trans-Atlantic flight. Oh yes, and ar lasses case was over weight as well so that was another $50 (mine was just under so couldn't balance it), I was not best pleased with all those Yankee Candles that were "such a good deal"!

I just take a small soft bag that pops under the seat but I watch these people with these "cases" and they soon take all the space in the overhead locker leaving people looking to nick someone else's space.

Didn't you think of bribing them with a candle to let the bags go though?!

That was on 1 internal flight. So on the next flight we transferred them into the hand luggage - and that resulted in a long hold up at security as they had to do tests on them to check they weren't explosives! It was funny though - I'm stood there with them going through my bag and getting 3 candles out, and looking at me as there's the overwhelming aroma from the candles, then another security woman came past and said "oh, that's nice what is it?" They were very good about it and then my wife's bag ended up on the counter with a few more!

But that's the crazy thing - your suitcase is too heavy so you can put the stuff in your hand luggage instead!

Or the fact that I get the same baggage allowance as someone who weighs the same as 4 of me (slight exaggeration). My husband and I's combined weight is only 20 stone, surely we should be allowed an extra case or two?
