Hayes - criticised as:
- He doesn't score enough goals.
- The number of goals he creates aren't relevant - strikers are judged on their goalscoring records.

Richards:
- Almost a goal every 2 starts in his Barnsley career.
- Still criticised repeatedly.

How exactly does this work again? :pff

Exactly right fella! Probably the reason why there is no other responses to this is the fact that you are bang right and all the moaners are probably eating a big fat portion of humble pie!

Thing is, there are always people who can do no wrong, and people who can do no right.

Once people decided they didn't like Richards they weren't going to change their mind...

Look what, say, Hargreaves had to do to win people over. Four months ago everyone would be pissing themselves at the thought of Man U wanting to spend almost £20mil on him... It's the same thing at our level. It's not right, but it's how it works. People (generally, not everyone) will struggle to accept Richards as a good striker, regardless of how many he scores for us.

New rule that needs to be considered

its how many you miss thats the most important factor now.

I think it works like this
for Hayes
Most assists last season- not important strikers judged by goals scored

Only 2 goals scored in championship - and one of those a penalty. this is important as only one real goal so far this season

The important point though
Not missing many though so he is a lazy player for not getting into goal scoring positions often enough = crap striker.

For Richards
Missing loads of chances every game - doesnt matter he is the top scorer in the league - if he was any good he would have scored into double figures by now and we would be top of the league. obviously a crap striker

I find this debate incredible! Richards is a very committed player who does weigh in with goals - rather have him than someone who looks dis-interested and only picks up the cash ( remind you of anyone!) . Hayes is one of the most skillful forwards we have in a long time . His assists are invaluable and if you go back to the play off games he has scored 4 in 6. Would we have got to Cradiff if it wasn't for his pen at Huddersfield or be in this division if it wasn't for his goal and pen at Cardiff.

I really wonder what people on here want - if it's so much of an issue then get another club. Go and pick up A Chelsea shirt and strut around like a peacock which seems to be the thing to do at the moment. Then again you'll probably go on tjhe Chelsea board and start whinging about Drogba!!

chelsea did pay over the odds for Drogba, but despite his cheating and diving antics, he still gets 15 a season, therefore it makes him a good striker.
Hayes and Richards are best partnership we have at club, end of.

Probably because some fans expect a striker who can score from more then 10 yards out,and to them goals from less then 10 yards dont count because anyone can score them [IMG]

To be honest, if we were top of the Premiership and competeing for the Champions league year in year out, some people on this board would still find something to complain about.

Before the season started the big complaint was that we would not score enough goals to survive as our strikers are crap, now we are one of the top scorers in the league and Richards is joint top goalscorer, but people are still not happy.

Wonder how good our players could be if we actually got behind them?

We haven't played against a good defence yet. Don't get too carried away until we have.
