Watched evil killers. Wath/mexbro killings. (4) He is certainly one fckued up human being. I remember it happening. But forgot how depraved he was. Horrendous. Not for the faint of heart.
Used to watch a lot of those kind of programs on tele at start of lockdown but haven't seen one about this guy before nor had I even heard of him. Been googling his crimes a bit after seeing this post and what a vile piece of scum he seems. People like him shouldn't be left to sit in jail, they should be put down
I played pool against him in the middle of his murder spree...he was clearly a weird character but I was shocked to the core when he was on tv outside Wombwell nick after his arrest.
No, he was absolutely rubbish...although tbf I had no inkling he'd murdered people. I'd seen him quite a few times when he came in the boozer with his Grandfather ( who he later murdered) he just put some money on the table and asked if anyone fancied a game and I took him up on it, I do remember thinking from the conversation he was a fantasist and liar and I wouldn't bother again.
Think it was Now tv mate. 'Britains most evil killers.' Season 4 episode 9 according to search. I remember going to the mother in laws at mexbro and seeing cops outside the entrance to the allotment near the Montague hospital, he killed his Grandad at. His solicitor made a reight nob of himsen. Saying "the killer is still out there. My client is completely innocent". Bet he never lived that down.
Thanks mate. I'll have to wait until it comes on Acorn TV or BritBox, so I can watch it over here. My mum used to work at Montague Hospital.
How’s it supposed to work? It’s this kind of thinking that’s allowed the government to cut legal aid and to land the likes of us without a hope if we’re ever wrongly accused. The law only works if everyone has the right to a fair trial, the legal profession don’t get to choose to not defend someone just because the crimes they’re accused of are horrific. And finally, if he confesses to his legal team, they’re not allowed to defend him. Their job is to run with whatever story he’s told them, whether it’s true or not.
We would've lived in Mexborough around 1969-1971, and then we moved to Goldthorpe. I left for college in 1997, but my mother worked at Montague during this time. She too was an SRN; last name Booth. I used to go to the hospital every Christmas Day, as they made everyone work a shift to be fair. I used to tour the wards drinking the booze they left out for visitors in one of the empty private rooms.
He made the statement after the first 2 were found I seem to remember. His overcooking of arkwrights innocence made it look ott with absolutely no doubt in his mind. Instead of just saying my client is pleading innocence. He made it quite clear. In his words. " The killer is still out there."
If he doesn’t believe his client is innocent, he cannot defend him. That’s it; that’s the story. And when the public buy into attacking the legal profession for defending the guilty, that’s when the understanding is broken and that allows the government to reduce the rights of all the accused. The cornerstone of our legal system is that if you’re accused of an offence; you have the right to a fair trial - the fact that this government have broken that right, and continue to attack the rights that are left is the most troubling offence committed by them IMHO. And it’s enabled by the press twisting public understanding of how the system works.
Your missing the point Donny. At the time (if you didn't see it.) The solicitor made a complete fool of himself. Also a defendant has a right to representation. Doesn't necessarily mean that representation believes his client is innocent. Hence plea bargaining.
I'm afraid you are wrong about a solicitor having to believe his client to be innocent in order to represent him. Just saying. But you are thus adding to the twisting of public understanding of how the system works, for good measure.
OK To be more precise: In England and Wales a lawyer isn’t allowed to run a defence they know to be untrue.
