    Its still free - you have an old version

    They just launched AVG free version 8 = I am guessing you have an earlier version.

    Just install the new version some time this month and you should be fine

    They did the same trick a year or so ago

    For some reason they seem to direct you to the pay version.

    Which has a few advantages but not many - I actually use the pay one on a work PC and the free one isnt ilicenced for commercial use. Home PC uses the free one though

    Is there a way to stop the popup (pop under?) that appears every so often. something to do with a 'special announcement for evg free users', or am i the only one getting it anyway?

    The only way to stop it is to upgrade to the newer version. Well, I upgraded and it disappeared after that :D
