Any book boffins out there? Help needed.

    You'll love (no, hate more likely) this one. I'm trying to find a book from ages back. And it doesn't stop there, the best bit is I don't know the title or the author!

    All I know is that the book is fiction and is classed as a children's book (characters are teenage I think), and is about a group of kids that make a voyage down a river, some using a raft, others following the river on ponies. They eventually all meet up on the sea shore where they hold a pony race (or races?)

    There. That's it. All the information I have. Anyone think this is an impossible task? Any help whatsoever will be greatly appreciated.

    .....not Swallows and Amazons, although on simular lines. Tends to think that it is based around the same time period, although still very sketchy memories.
