I have a 1.4 Astra Estate. It has done 66,000 miles. 2 months ago, the car started jumping on the over run. It wasn't a problem, I just had to accelerate slightly to cure this. Last night the orange engine management light came on and stayed on. The car doesn't jump anymore. I've also noticed a slight whooshing sound from underneath the car whilst idling. I'm not used to these new fangled engine management system. Any ideas what may be the problem? Could it simply need a new exhaust, or is this a more serious problem? The car is driving fine at the moment, but the orange light is still on.
RE: Hi Roundster....... When coasting down a hill for example, the car "kangaroos" - misfires. Also on motorways when your foot is off the throttle it does the same. It was only random, and appears to have stopped now the engine management light has come on. The problem is, in the manual, it says DO NOT drive the car whilst this orange light is on. Thing is, it's better than it's been for a long time. I daren't go anywhere however for risk of failure.
Engine Management I had a caviler and the engine management light kept coming on,I used to get it off by starting the car and give it a little rev and then just turn the car off and on very quickly. If this does'nt do the trick just take it to dealers and have it plugged in,it will take 2 mins. The caviler never came to any arm whilst I drove it with the management light on. By the way a bet you its the cam shaft sensor thats gone mine went about 4 times in 3 years
you should probably take it to your nearest vauxhall garage They can run diags to find out why the light is coming on - it could be somthing simple or fairly important. If the latter there is a real danger that continuing to drive may cause serious damage to the engine
RE: you should probably take it to your nearest vauxhall garage Thanks Dave - that's what I'm gonna do. Strange thing is, car seems to be going like a bullet since the light has come on.
