I have a 1½ year old westie (Bitch) and on friday and saturday all she did was carry her teddys about crying and sniffing around constantly as if shes looking for something, shes not normaly too attached to her toys. Then last night she'd just lay there panting guarding all her toys.

Today shes not so bad, still looks abit anxious but hopefully it could be a small phase. im wondering if the reason is that shes going to come into heat, i dont know. I just wondered if this was a normal thing for a dog/bitch to do because if its anything to be concerned about il be straight tio the vets! :)S)

Never had a bitch (apart from the human kind!!) so no idea pal. I would have though that after 1 1/2 years you would have known when shes on heat

I would give Vets 4 Pets a ring in the morn just to put your mind at rest. They will probably be able to tell you over the fone

Yes, it is common in unspeyed bitches.

It can also occur if a bitch is speyed at the wrong time. It's important to spey a bitch mid season. At work we recommend 3 months after the last season finished.

My dog Amber had one because her hormones were completely up the creek. She hadn't had a season so we had no idea of when the perfect time to spey her was. I can't remember what tablets we had, but you can get something from the vets which will help.

Your dog will probably sort herself out eventually, but if you're worried then give your vet a call. They should be able to offer advice over the telephone.

    It's definitely a phantom pregnancy.
The symptoms are the same as my dog had a few years ago. She collected all the toys she had and was trying to make nests.
I presume for the phantom pups.
It's nothing to worry about, but you need to get your pet spayed if you are not planning to breed from her.
