The thing that worry's me the most about this BT VISION SPORT is if they get the rights to the football league another ITV digital/on digital waiting to happen, that's what sent us into admin last time.
ESPN lost the Premier league rights from 2013 to BT last year. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-18430036 If BT have now bought the ESPN TV Channels, then it sound more like were going to continue getting Premier league on Virgin. If anything, its less worrying news than them just buying the rights.
I have Virgin XL. What do I make of it? An increase in my subscription or the loss of a shitload of sport
I subscribe on Sky mainly for the American Sport. I was a subscriber to NASN before that got bought by ESPN which was great as meant I also ended up with the Premier League. ESPN had lost Premier League rights to BT and also ESPN had lost what rights to NFL they had and their NHL rights, I guess now because they were looking to sell off having lost the PL rights. What concerns me most, purely from my personal viewpoint, is what this means for the US sports rights - ESPN had done it really well and I'm not sure just how much commitment to it BT would have.
Am I missing something or does that sound like a terrible bit of business from BT? Bid against ESPN and push up the price of premier league games, win the rights by paying even more than ESPN was going to pay and then buy ESPN anyway
Depends, they've bought the channels and probably the existing rights, probably saved themselves money in the long run by not having to look for other stuff to put on with the Premier League. Wouldn't have been an option before but now ESPN have pulled out having lost PL so probably got it for a knockdown price.
I have ESPN, but don't watch premier league live football.... It bores the crap out of me. Along with that European cup *****. THUD! The sound of falling timber in west Yorkshire
