Just found an electrical 'socket' in one of our rooms just above the skirting board. It has a little silver key which is next to a tiny opening with a green indicator on it. In the top of the socket are 2 red 'gates' that press in. I've absolutely no bloody idea what it's for and the key doesn't seem to do much when put in the key hole. Can you shed any light on it please?

    Thanks

Sounds like a personal attack alarm fitted as part of a burglar alarm system.

We have one summat similar near front door and one alongside the bed - idea is you press on the red contacts to set house alarm off if you feel threatened.

Key is used to reset it once it's been activated.
