Anyone know how i can find out if there are any connection speed problems with UK and particular parts of the world. I have a site that i connect to remotely in the middle east, and it keeps crashing/grinding to a halt, and the only thing i can think of is that there are current speed problems (my connection speed to uk sites is fine)

What do you mean by "connect remotely?" Is this some sort of VPN you need for work?

ISP's give different types of traffic different priorities - so just to say that your "connection speed" is OK might not apply across the board.

it is a VPN that was working fine last week, as was an FTP connection. However, FTP is now running at about a tenth of the speed last week, and VPN probably similar (unable to gauge, but the software being remotely accessed just hangs)

Have you checked with your ISP?

FTP traffic will almost certainly get throttled at peak times of the day (as it's not regarded as high priority).

For obvious reasons, VPN should always be good. However, this can be used to disguise P2P applications, so some ISP's have started blocking this completely (except on certain types of account).
