Harpenden is an attractive town, surrounded by countryside but with easy access into nearby towns and also into London. Nearby towns include St Albans (5 miles south), Luton (5 miles north), Hemel Hempstead (7 miles south west) and Welwyn Garden City (7 miles east). Harpenden's origin is as an agricultural and farming community. The arrival of a railway station on the Luton to London Kings Cross line saw the village develop. Over the past 100 years the town has become an affluent, attractive and desirable place to live with many listed buildings. The whole of the town centre is classified as a conservation area. Although Harpenden now has almost 30,000 residents, it is still often referred to as "Harpenden Village". Harpenden Train Station is one stop south of Luton while the next stop south is St Albans. Harpenden to London Kings Cross takes about 26 minutes and so the town is popular with those commuting into the City. Although not a major shopping centre, Harpenden has a good selection of shops, supermarkets and other amenities. There are numerous estate agents to serve the town and surrounding villages. For leisure and entertainment, Harpenden has a wide and varied selection of restaurants and pubs. For entertainment such as cinemas, nightclubs and theatres you need to travel to the surrounding towns. There are many golf courses surrounding the town along with tennis clubs, squash clubs and Harpenden Rugby Club. A BUPA Hospital is situated in the town. Harpenden is home to the world famous Rothamsted Experimental Station where agricultural research takes place. You can walk in the parkland around the Institute.
Harpenden is a nice place Loko Just north of St.Albans We used to run a pub there, no trouble, upmarket. Few years ago mind, but it's a well established middle class area, can't think it has changed much... I'd go for it if I was you. Are you a decent pub manger...do you want a job??
He's alright So long as you don't expect him to work the same night as midweek games. Satdi's he'll work mind, he just can't miss his midweek trips!
RE: Harpenden is a nice place Loko The pubs called The peppercorn, its on the outskirts, you know it? I'm only 22, going through my training at the moment, but been in charge of 3 pubs already for long spells, and an assistant/relief manager at a gastro pub in Eastbourne at the moment. My boss wants the pub on a temporary lease for 3 months so we'd be front runners should it show potential, all down to whether I say yes or no.
Hang on, I was down as a maybe for 3 satdi's in a row Until I found out Tranmere is a Tuesday night birthday bash!
