This ^ Wish I could try running but years of being overweight have taken their toll out of my knees. I cycle instead - 6 years older than you but only been doing it a couple of years. Feel fit and strong and have a list of 'achievements' for the year on a par with your running ones and it is the fitness coupled with the excitement and adrenalin of the events that lead to a fantastic sense of well being. Good luck with the runs, if I can manage to keep the weight off I will definitely be trying a 10k or half marathon. Nice one.
Yes, mate, ran my first marathon last year. I usually do one long run every couple of weeks, between 10-20k depending on my energy levels and the weather. But like you, I started very late, having run the Farnham marathon aged 45. It definitely does give you a psychological lift.
York marathon and 10 mile run was a cracking and well organised event. Managed to drag myself around the 10 mile course in a time of 1 hour 10 minutes 39 seconds and finished 94th out of 1598 finishers for the shorter distance.
