just been out on my mountain bike, I sling it on the bike rack and go where the mood takes me, anyway I went on the trans pennine the otherside of donneh, and low and behold i'm stuck at arksey crossing and what hammers past, pacific a4 class "the bittern".................. what a beautiful site and smell
cant fault you mate, i went to whitby the other weekand the sir nigel gresley came thro gromont while we were waiting for our train sent shivers down your spine.
Not a big buff by any means, but that's a real treat. there is an A4 running on the North Yorkshire moors between Pickering and Grosmont, The Sir Nigel Gresley. It also ran the flying Scotsman route shortly after it's restoration 3 or 4 years back. It has the same blue livery as the Mallard. Found something on the Bittern, at the bottom it mentions special mainline runs june and july this year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LNER_Class_A4_4464_Bittern
take a look at this page from YouTube thowt you may like this Jedders http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K88R2niW_08
Re: take a look at this page from YouTube My pic from 3 years ago of Sir Nigel in the sidings at I think Grosmont, wherever the workshops are on that line. Snapped him going by on a chugger with the jack russell on route to Whitby. We were hoping for a ride but he wasn't well, we were told. There is an ace dvd all about the restoration. http://www.nymr.co.uk/
Lucky lucky man! Can't remember the last time I saw a Streak flying along the tracks. What an amazing feeling that must have been - presume you were in the car, or had you got out to stand by the gate?
Re: take a look at this page from YouTube These are nothing short of the royalty of steam engines. Tragic that so many of them went to the breakers yards. They should have ALL been preserved

I was out on my mountain bike and stood leaning on the crossing gates, the noise and smell took me back 50 years to the same place ( I was born and raised in Bentley nr Doncaster)
I was out on the bike and done nigh on 12 miles so was halfway through a heart attack and was glad of the rest
Re: take a look at this page from YouTube All six surviving are going together in York in a few weeks, including the Dwight D Eisenhower and Dominion of Canada back from North America - special like. Can't wait. http://www.nrm.org.uk/PlanaVisit/Events/mallard75.aspx
Re: take a look at this page from YouTube Hmmm DEFINITELY going to that. Will be living only 55 miles from York in a couple of weeks time so that is a must-do visit for July
Re: take a look at this page from YouTube See you there then mate. If you want to see Steam trains regularly, then come through to Wakefield, most days during the summer holidays there is a Special train to Scarbro` leaves about 10.00am and returns here about 7.30pm. At Kirkgate station. In fact there are 2 specials actually, one comes from York and then goes to Scarbro` and the other comes from Crewe to Scarbro`.
Re: take a look at this page from YouTube Thanks for that information. There is a distinct lack of such things on the Chiltern line that goes through here (Princes Risborough) so it will be nice to revisit my youth once my exile is over.
Yes, a couple of miles from Bawtry. Contracts exchanged yesterday, completion next week, season ticket waiting for me at Oakwell box office
