Not a big buff by any means, but that's a real treat. there is an A4 running on the North Yorkshire moors between Pickering and Grosmont, The Sir Nigel Gresley. It also ran the flying Scotsman route shortly after it's restoration 3 or 4 years back. It has the same blue livery as the Mallard.

Found something on the Bittern, at the bottom it mentions special mainline runs june and july this year.

IMG_1431.jpg My pic from 3 years ago of Sir Nigel in the sidings at I think Grosmont, wherever the workshops are on that line. Snapped him going by on a chugger with the jack russell on route to Whitby. We were hoping for a ride but he wasn't well, we were told. There is an ace dvd all about the restoration.

Lucky lucky man! Can't remember the last time I saw a Streak flying along the tracks. What an amazing feeling that must have been - presume you were in the car, or had you got out to stand by the gate?

These are nothing short of the royalty of steam engines. Tragic that so many of them went to the breakers yards. They should have ALL been preserved

I was out on my mountain bike and stood leaning on the crossing gates, the noise and smell took me back 50 years to the same place ( I was born and raised in Bentley nr Doncaster)

    See you there then mate.

If you want to see Steam trains regularly, then come through to Wakefield, most days during the summer holidays there is a Special train to Scarbro` leaves about 10.00am and returns here about 7.30pm. At Kirkgate station. In fact there are 2 specials actually, one comes from York and then goes to Scarbro` and the other comes from Crewe to Scarbro`.

Thanks for that information. There is a distinct lack of such things on the Chiltern line that goes through here (Princes Risborough) so it will be nice to revisit my youth once my exile is over.
