IF yes: If i cleared my laptop somehow and put my Microsoft office on a usb stick could i put it back on when its been cleared???
So what you are wanting to do is a system restore? Stop watching dodgy porn then you won't get a virus.
I want to get rid of all the old games, Football managers and that. What do you think though. If i put the microsoft word on a usb would it remember its the same laptop?
Wouldn't suggest it, Hemsy. That's why systems come with a CD, which you can boot up when you start the system for the first time (I.E. so you can get the info back onto the system that you have wiped) you can't boot up from a USB stick to my knowledge. Do what DEETEE said.
Seriously Phil, don't bother with system restore just remove all the crap through add / remove programs in your control panel.
Yeah yeah. It's ok Phil, we've all looked at a bit of animal porn in the past. Well that liverpool fan has anyway.
Try This http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/download Then This http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard Disclaimer :- Use at your own risk, Blah,Blah,Blah. Etc.Etc.Etc.
One small serious point - before you do any messing about do you back up all your data files. If not then I cant recommend highly enough that you do you can always put back on programs like word etc as long as you kept the disks ( or worst case get a new copy) but data once its gone you have lost it if you havent kept copies unless you have a virus most programs can be removed from the add / remove programs screen so as others have said thats the best thing to do You definitely cant install word if you just copy the program files onto a memory stick also if youi want to wipe the pc you need a full set of installation disks for the windows operating system , all the drivers etc - if you need to come on here and ask I wouldnt attempt it (its not difficult but if you dont know what you are doing or dont have the right disks to recover from you could get very stuck)
I've just been on that add/ remove programs and romved a few programs. Football manager 2010 and cricket captain 2010 been two of them and also they are bigish files.
Good stuff The reason you cannot simply copy off and back on is that when programs are installed they not only put files in a location, they also change environment files, registries etc. so they can integrate with your system. Even the add/remove programs utility isn't perfect at deleting all traces, depending on how well the particular program's uninstaller has been written. That is unless you use 'portable' versions of software. These tend to be stand-alone executables that require no installation. For anyone not aware of this site - http://portableapps.com/ - there's some useful stuff on there. You can run all sorts of programs straight from a memory stick. It's surprising just how many big name applications have been made portable (sometimes hacked) if you do a bit of digging.
Don't remove Footy Manager Hemsy, l thought thats what your footy knowledge was based on? Lighthearted.
Nowt wrong with Football managers but i only normally play last one so 09/10/11 aren't needed are they.
