I think that had we defended just half decently, we'd have won that game. The opening goal should never have stood, but we pretty much handed them another 4 on a plate, with some piss poor marking at set-pieces. I think far too many of our players had 'off days' though. O'Brien may as well have been sat with me watching it on the laptop; Delap (his first half shot apart) offered absolutely nothing going forward or in defence. Neither centre half covered their self in glory, especially MooreNulty, poor lad. Our left hand side was ripped apart time and again first half. I refuse to be too harsh on them however, as let's be honest we've just prior to this witnessed a run we're unlikely to see again for some years. I think the new lad, Tunnicliffe looked decent in patches, and will hopefully get better as he gets used to his teammates etc. And I was again impressed with Marlon and Daggers up top. All three subs staked their claims for a start, too, so it wasn't all bad. I do though believe that Bobby Hassell and Jacob Mellis deserve more game time. But hey, football is all about opinions and the only opinion that counts is that held by Flitcroft. The acid test has arrived - NOW we'll get to learn a lot more about our manager. You reds.
Well, if we assume that even if our defending had just been reasonably crap as opposed to diabolical, we'd have "only" conceded three and left with a point! I still reckon that had we got a second when we had a bit of a spell after the first went in we'd have got something.
I agree, if we had got the first goal it could have been all different. I think we did not lay down as in the past and ok we lost. It is all about where we go from here. Look at Hull 3goals down in 8 minutes. We have got the looss out
Yes totally agree I think the relationship with staff and players showed in the way that even at four nil down we still wanted to win. I must say though that even though we all know some players aren't up to championship football its a team game win as a team lose as a team, no scapegoats as some fans need to just calm down. Not nearly as worried as last year
**** IPad played up. What I was saying is we have the loss out of the way and we now need to push on. We have a really good squad and when Dawson and RNL get back we will survive
I agree with most of that. Mellis HAS to start against Bolton. Delap did make a vital challenge in the first half as their player (can't remember who) was about to pull the trigger after Stead squared it to him. I was pleased for Cwyka who hasn't had much of a look in since he lost his place in the team, took his goal well. Daggers and Harewood were quality as usual. It makes a nice change that we're no longer struggling to score goals. Certainly makes for a more exciting game. I'd rather lose 5-3 than 2-0.
There was an elbow in one of our lads faces, then the lad Elliott used somebody as a step ladder. Unreal how they were both unseen by 3 officials. Scott Mathieson - added to my 'lovely person' list.
Delap was awful (that cross apart), on Tuesday. He never made himself available and just walked around.
