Best area for food

Is a street known as Fressgasse (i think the proper name is Grosse Bockenheimer Strasse or something) which is just full of smart restaurants, delis, cheese shops, that type of thing, its ace. When I went they had the food fastival there all week so it was the best place to drink as well - so for pubs I'm not really sure.

Top city though, like all of Germany.

'sabout 30 minutes by taxi to the centre.

Saxonhausen is good for the night life

The red light district is around the hauptbahnhof (alledgedly)

The city centre shuts on Saturday afternoon.

A few good bars near the Turm and Opera house

    and like he said.

Plus the Romer is nice. About the only place the RAF didn't do a job on in the early 40's

Look out for the charity stalls in the city plaza selling Knobloch Suppe - cracking.

Cant remember tbh, was totally hammered back in 2006. Good day / night out as i vividly remember. I do recall after the England match an open top double decker bus full of ladies of the night, topless and/or in lingerie touring around the England fans dropping off leaflets encouraging us to visit them later in the evening !! None of us did visit of course.

The sight will live with me for a long time though:D :D :D :D

    Just been.

If you are flying into "Frankfurt" Hahn Airport, with Ryanair, it's about 80 miles and 100 mins by coach, but I daresay the actual Frankfurt airport is accessible by Taxi.

We too would recommend Sachsenhausen, as others have said, for a pub-type atmosphere for your evening meal, you need to find an Apfelwein place, there are lots, on Schweitzer Strasse, walking distance from the U-Bahn station.

The shopping centre district won't be closed on Saturday afternoon, I am sure it was business as usual when we went.

I recommend the Bratwurst sausages available in a roll for €2 in the food market in the Hauptbanhof - we practically lived on them given our anxiety at the exchange rate at the time (not much better now but better than parity, which is what we had).

The area around the station is the dodgiest, but not too scary for hardened travellers like us, though we never went there after about 8pm, and apparently it is the drugs/vice centre late on and through the night.

Plenty to do, good museums, enjoyable city. Not my favourite in Germany, but worth giving it a whirl if you've already done Berlin, Munich, and Cologne, in my opinion.

    Ambiente?

    You going to Ambiente?
I'm there from Wednesday until Saturday - great fun! Hoping to find somewhere for the England game, pretty sure there are some places that'll show it - was there for the World Cup, loads of decent places to go.

    Lange Samstag

Lange Samstag (Long Saturday) is an enforced closure of all shops and work related buildings/companies.

It occurs on either the first or last Sat of the month, but this happens all accross the country. its designed to allow families to spend more quality time together. in effect its a long weekend for them.

I was in the Army and spent quite a few years over there in different cities and it was always the same.

    hope this helps.

Ambiente ? Never heard of it.

Will probably be a case of land - go to hotel - work Sunday - go to hotel - work Monday - fly home.

Hoping to find a bit of "me time" though, for a couple of hours. Spent three days in Dublin last year and never saw a thing.

    You're lucky then!
It's the European housewares trade fair, so the hotels will be full of people talking knives and cutlery!

Booked a stupidly early flight back on Saturday to get back for the game! (doh)

Good choice, the value for money you'll get from our wares will last longer than you'll get from the other distractions! lol However probably not as pleasurable. And what a shame, I used to work for Addis as well!!

Enjoy your stay, not a bad city, been a few times for the motor show - there are better though around Germany but you'll have a good time for a couple of days

Hmmm. Explains a lot does that.

We went out there a day later than most of our group - who then refused to go elsewhere. Plenty of "entertainment" in the evenings though :D

Have enjoyed all my times in Germany tbh - having been to Hamburg, Munich, Rosenheim & Frankfurt. Dusseldorf is next on the list & supposed to be very good. Can't wait.
