    ... a process that converts text to speech (preferably to mp3 format) and doesn't sound like a f*ckin Dalek.

    Not that I've heard a Dalek shagging mind you.

    Fisher Price do some decent tape recorders. Handy to wipe stains off and that when Addio dribbles and such.
