My accidental spilled tea on my PC laptop seems to have 'knackered' it altogether. Vista seems to be 'taboo' and looking at an ACER with XP proff system top specs, new, was £1200 now half price. Not a well known brand anybody know if they are any good ???
I've seen them advertised quite a lot but my mate had one and it packed in within a week, no tea or anything
I have one and for the money you get a very good computer the only problem i have ever found with them is that the power connector on the motherboard is a little delicate and if someone catchs the wire it can break but it is an easy and cheap fix if it happens after the warrenty runs out
Thay have a fairly reasonable reputation A company I used to work for used them for all the laptops in their Asian offices and I never heard complaints
Nice enough when they work` They are not the most helpful of companies - their aftersales support is pretty diabolical. Once they have your money they don't want to know you if it goes wrong. The upside with them, though, is that you get a lot of computer for not a lot of money. If you want to post a link to the one you've seen, I'll give the price and spec the once-over, see if it's a good buy.
Thanks link here The company laptops direct, here it is www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer_TravelMate_5623WSMi_LX.TGS06.002/version-1.asp
Im using one now wife has one of the entry level machines (forget the name), I am using a mid level Aspire, had no problems as said before, you get a lot of laptop for a reasonable price and I will buy one again used to think that this was because they use the AMD processor rather than the pentium but they are probably comparable now
My first laptop was an Acer, back in 2003. It is still going strong and is excellent. I purchased 2 others through my Union, they were superb , but in the last year mine has developed a fault. I know its little peculiarities and can cope with it, anyone else would have thrown it out of the window in despair. Out of the 2, I got the bad one, but I have always found Acer a good company to deal with. They respond to emails promptly andif it is under warranty they arrange collection and return.</p> I own and Acer PDA n50 and that has been great too.</p> </p> On the whole I would recommend them. </p>
RE: Nice enough when they work` That's funny as I have always found them extremely courteous and prompt with their replies.
Int it nice tu hav some eggspert help. thanks for the recommends Might buy the version with about £500 off, (Y) (Y)
I wouldn't Lot of money for that machine TBH. The Intel GMA950 graphics are crap and you only get 1gb of ram. The Vista version of this machine seems to be better specified and £120 cheaper! http://www.technoworld.com/productdisplay.asp?ProductID=47681 I know you said you didn't want Vista but I'd buy it, give it a go and if you want XP back, just go out and buy XP Professional OEM for about £85. You're still £40 up on the deal and getting a better spec machine.
