If I have a grating where d = 1658 nm
what does 1/d tell us about the lines on the grating?
    I make 1/d = 6.031 x 10^-13 nm

    If...

...it's a genuine question then 1/d is the groove frequency.

If you're trying to show off about how educated you are then i suspect you're potentially well down the list of people on this board.

Do you want a Photomask with gratings of such a size?

Hardly showing off is it !

Thanks for the response though. I was utterly bloody stumped as there's nothing in the notes about reciprocating the gap and what it actually meant.

    And groove frequency is?

    Groove Frequency

The number of times you look groovy on a daily basis. Wearing a leather jacket, riding a motorcycle, dancing to the BGs, that sort of thing.

I might be able to help

You know when you have spaghetti bolognese and there's no Parmesan to be had? You know you get the cheese grater out and grate some of the kids Tesco Value Cheddar? You know how as you grate it the shreds of cheese come out at an angle? Well that angle is your 'diffraction grating'. I find 31 degrees off the vertical is perfect for spag bol.

Does that help? You don't need to answer mate, not a problem, not a problem at all.

Oh and d = 1658nm - that's the size of the hole in your grater. FACT.
