I am not saying Mr keane is one of these BUT
when i was in the Army
    XMAS day,1950, where a soldier
get a Cup of tea in bed served by the Sgt Major
and then gets waited on by the Officers at Xmas Dinner
    on this day,in 1950
we were getting a new Commanding Officer called Majot Tennant he stood on a Table
    and said IM A BARSTEWARD,
and do you know he was the best officer you could wish for he was a barsteward
but we were all spik and span, fit a fiddles
now if Mr Keane says ,something simular
and is as good Look out,Championship

I've not read his book, but I have seen a few quotes from it:

"The game is full of bluffers, banging on about 'rolling your sleeves up', 'having the right attitude' and 'taking some pride in the shirt you're wearing'," he wrote in his autobiography, offering a glimpse of the career to come. "A manager who trades in those cliched generalisations - and there are many of them - is missing the point. Brian Clough dealt in detail, facts, specific incidents, and invariably he got it right. Playing for him was demanding."

"Most managers don't really manage at all," he added. "They pick the team, buy players, dictate tactics, placate the directors and court the media. Then they get the sack."

    I'll go for yes.

    Almost impossible to tell

Different qualities required to those as a player - he may have them or may not - he will only find out when he tries.

Wouldnt advise starting with Sunderland though

i'm with you on this, he'll get the player's who think like him. And for sure they'll be a team to reckon with'' discipline he'll enforce !! but i reckon he'll be a 'great' manager, strong but fair....

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

Makes a habit of publically slagging off his team mates, so what's he going to be like with players far less talented than those he was surrounded by when he played for the Scum?

First time he doesn't get his own way with the Chairman, it'll be huge tantrum, crying to the media and sacked.

Spoilt little brat. Hasn't got the mentaility to deal with things when they're going against him.

Most great players don't make good managers because they can't deal with players not being able to do what they could as a player.

He has also lived a cossetted life as a top player with a top (*spit*) club and has therefore not lived in the real world for a long time. Management will be a different kettle of fish. He will not be in control of whether he gets his own way (i.e. results going for him) because that will be in the hands of players less talented than he was.

My bet is that, after a year of it not going his way he will be gone.

No. I think he'll shout and ball, but it doesn't win games.

The man you describe sounds like Brian Clough- Great footballer although never played at the top level- but 251 league goals in 274 appearances is phenomenal.

Look at what happened at derby and Leeds and how he upset the boards at both clubs.

Same with players- publically telling the Leeds players to throw their medals away because they had won them all by cheating. my favourate was when he told Eddie Gray that if he had been a racehourse he would have been shot.

I don't think that Keanes got the nouse of Clough or an able scout/assistant like the long suffering Peter Taylor. We can but wait and see.

    Nah, to be a manager

    probably not

he will need to learn to compromise.

if he does - he's got a chance.
