Paul Ince and Martin Keown talking about their careers with Dan Walker. Anyway, 5 mins in, Keown mentions his title-winning Arsenal side coming to Barnsley at the end of the season, and "their fans are singing There's Only One Brazil..." Now, am sure thats what he said. He certainly didnt say it right anyway. But, thats by the by. Its how he is referring to it that has confused me. Im sure he gives the impression that WE were singing about Arsenal!? Have a look. Its on now...
We were singing about Arsenal They beat us 2-0 but at the end of the game the Ponty End gave a rendition of Championies referring to Arsenal. Their fans applauded us, we applauded them. It was a right love in. I guess there was so much ill feeling towards Man Utd...
Re: We were singing about Arsenal It was a change that season for one of the 'big' clubs to come to Oakwell and not dive, cheat, have the ref in their back pocket etc. Worthy Champions.
Re: Plus they had David Seaman Agreed. Proper hand he got off the Ponte in our tuesday night league cup game with them. I remember think it was ITV highlights and Bergkamp was being interviewed in the old tunnel area. Commentator (forget who it was) tried to talk down to the legend with something like "What's it like being at Barnsley on a cold tuesday night?" but Denis went on to say how he loved the atmosphere and experience.
Re: Plus they had David Seaman I know we sang Championes etc. But I have watched it back again, and Keown clearly states that "their fans were singing 'Theres Only One Brazil..' and thats how we were playing back then, we won the title, and other fans could see what a great team we were" . Dan Walker doesnt correct him, despite the fact he alluded to our Brazil song on radio deedar the other week. Paul Ince says sumat but I couldnt make it out tbh because he's weird
Re: We were singing about Arsenal They sang back to us "Barnsley's staying up" but we all knew they were pill0cking, pity - we were being serious with our chants an all. I remember the Reds fans singing throughout the 90 mins and Wenger commented that the atmosphere was incredible from all sides of the ground. Vieira looked about 7ft 2 in the flesh.
