    I'm confused now!

    41,500 x 3.5 = 145,000 suggesting its 350% but put through that formula (103,500 / 41,500 x 100) its 250%??

349.397591% is about the closest I can be bothered to get without doing it using a formula :D

    I'm almost certain it's a 250% increase.

145k is 350% of 41.5k but the increase 100% less than this taking into account we have 41.5k in both times.

No, but you've already got 1 to start with. The increase is what we want, not a number as a percentage of another.
