Yes I went in 1995, my favourite place was Rotorua, Auckland is a nice City and there's plenty to see / do there. Wellington is also very nice. I also like the Lake Taupo area, although don't go when Mount Ruapehu (sp) is erupting like I did!

Just the North Island? South island is prettier. You should probably head up the Bay of Islands above Auckland.

I enjoyed Whitianga despite nearly taking my car off the edge of a cliff.

Spent 8 weeks traversing both islands in a beat up Nissan Primera...

    ...which was nice.

Taupo was really good on the North Island as is Rotarua. Did the Tongariro Crossing http://www.tongarirocrossing.org.nz/ which is probably the best walk I've ever done. It actually felt like you were on Mars the terrain is that desolate.

The Bay of Islands was nice, Paihia and the 90 mile beach at Cape Reinga were also spectacular. Visiting the place at Waitangi where the treaty was signed by the Maori people and the British was really interesting. http://www.bayofislands.net/explore/waitangi

Auckland was ok but nothing too spectacular. Other than that mate just explore...

By the way, there's no-one there

The population of NZ is about 4 million, and over a million live in Auckland. Yet physically NZ is about the size of the UK, which has a population of 60 million+. So basically you can travel for miles in NZ and see hardly anyone, especially in the South island.

I've got some old friends in Hamilton that emigrated over a decade ago with their parents. They love it there and don't regret the move. I'd love to visit them one day.

Did a few months there on the Arethusa.

Visiting North and South Island, Loved it every last second, the people are great the place is so clean they were running about in old Morris Oxfords that were still pristine due to the air purity. little or no rust.

Was offered semi pro terms to play Hockey for a team in South Island, but still had 4 years to do in the Navy so couldn't take it up. When i was in Auckland there was a club called The Yorks and Lancs club. All ex pats from those areas had their own bar etc now that WAS fun.

I would go tomorrow without a shadow of a doubt. Its a little on the expensive side for white goods etc as just about everything has to be imported but hey.......anything is get roundable...lol

Hamilton was a bit of a fly infested dump

Everywhere else was stunning but Hamilton was very disappointing
