keeps giving oddjob " a chance to prove himself as he is learning all the time" yet mostto and christensen are shown the door without much of a chance.
i don't trust him spending money

No not at all, if he had made a mess in other areas then maybe but evertone knows a striker is the hardest player to sign.

Mostto and Christensen didn't do anything in the games they did play to really demand a first 11 place, plus SD sees them everyday and works with them, he is the best person to judge. He has brought a lot of very average strikers in but he hasn't spent a fortune and it is tough to find a goalscorer at this level. The way he has built the rest of the squad is impressive, picked up some good players who are worth more than we paid for them. Hopefully Ward will follow in the footsteps of the other Ward and bang a load of goals in. Law of averages suggests we have got to hit upon a successful striker soon.

In fairness Snap he hasn't done that badly.

If you tot up what we could get for all the players he has bought against what he paid for them all we would make a pretty sum.

Mostto and Christensen are the easy ones to point the finger at - and rather than being poor signings I think Davey is at fault for not really giving them a fair chance. He does see them day in day out and maybe they didnt deserve it.

I'd look at Muller, Anderson, Colace, JCR, Kozluk, Moore, Foster, Souza, Hume (before injured of course) and to a certain extent Macken. There are 10 players there that form part of the backbone of the team that have added much more than we had before Davey's reign.

Yeah he's fu*ked up on strikers - but at least this time with Ward he's not gone for some south american who can't settle and scored against the Peru's version of the ship in Royston.

Because KO is an effective player the only bad part of is game is his finishing and Rigters does look a quality player who
I'm sure will score lots of goals. Davey has made mistakes but he does see them and ships them back out and rightly too.
I think you would be moaning more if the other strikers were playing and KO and Rigters were frozen out.

I agree. I think the signing of Hume in the summer showed that he'd learnt his lesson in going to Peru etc for unknown quantities, because there was nothing to stop him doing that again, if the 'Patrick backs me all the way' statement was anything to go by.

I think Ward is a good buy. Similar sort of player to Hume, in that he has pace and energy to burn. £400k seems a fair price too, because without his goals, Chesterfield would be looking relegation in the face this season.

Fingers crossed he's also got that ability to score goals out of nothing, like Hume.

Personally think we are paying way over the odds - proven Championship Midfielder in Howard goes for £500,000 yet we pay (or offer £400,000 plus add ons) for a Division 4 striker KO couldnt make the step up, lets hope if we sign him that Ward can - cant say im thrilled by this transfer.

There is something different with Howard though. His contract was due to expire at the end of this season (i think thats right, although i may have just made it up), and he and Mr Davey obviously didn't see eye to eye anymore.

Time will tell whether or not its gonna be good business..... or another £400k pissed up the wall.

Oh, i thought they'd offered him a new improved contract to get him to stay? Not that his contract expires in the summer? That'll teach me to do some research on the matter first. Apologies.

I would say that is the difference between a midfielder and a striker. The strikers always go for more, especially 22 year olds who have been scoring consistently throughout their careers so far. It is a gamble but not over priced. If we don't pay it someone else will.

Difference is, Ward is the top scorer in League 2, KO was never top scorer. I think (I might be wrong), that Ward has more goals in half a season than kO ever got in a full season

If he could score he would be the perfect player unfortunatly he can't thats why we are trying to sign someone who can.
