The rules we used: It was played using the tennis court markings, with a tennis ball or football. One person or team in each 'square' (where the service ball has to bounce in tennis). Plus other players waiting to get on by the side of the court. The aim was to work your way round the court from the first to the fourth square, which was the daddy square, by end of break, by knocking out the people in the squares above you by kicking/heading/punching the ball onto their square and it bouncing twice (bit like tennis). If you are knocked out you go back to square 1 or the back of the queue if there was one. It was ace cos loads of people could play, and the people in 3rd and 4th squares could team up to keep their good places and keep the 1st and 2nd square people down (only for the 3rd square person to turn on the 4th square just as the bell went and knock him out, thus cheekily winning. See - tactics!). This is probably totally different to other peoples versions of the game, but it was cracking fun and good to watch others playing too.
Well, lines painted on the ground.. ..20 years previously that were wearing off. In the summer we did have nets, but these were so full of holes that beach balls would have got thru them. Plus, the playing fields at Kingstone are so exposed to the wind off the moors that we spent a good deal of time standing at 45 degree angles. So not that posh really.
