take a staring look around the stands on the half way line as though he knew his fate before the game kicked off. I looked at him and he looked a dejected man. A few of the players walked straight past him and he didn't acknowledge anyone like he normally does whether we win, draw or lose. He just stood there for a minute or two looking at the stands, each and every one of them and seemed to be saying a farewell in his own way in my eyes. Can i just point out that I did and still do really like the bloke. He will never be forgot in my book as he lead us to the unthinkable last season by staying up and put a lot of pride back into Barnsley. Never have I wanted a bloke to succeed as a manager at this club as I did for him at the start of this season. He deserved to be successful after last season but for whatever reason, it hasn't worked out and as much as i like the man, I love my club more and staying in this division is key for us. Should he ever return in an away capacity, he will be welcomed by me personally as I will remember last season and not this. The decision is the right one to part terms but I just want to say a big THANK YOU for last season and good luck in whatever you do in future.
yes agree . thank you for last season and saving us last season . i think we all wanted flicker to do well this season , gutted it didnt work out , but today was a shocking performance
I pointed out at half time he knows hes losing his job with so many attacking players on the pitch Dawson Mellis O`Brien McCourt Cywka Pedersen Tudgay
I read his programme notes prior to the match and thought it read as though he expected it could well be his last chance. I reckon he'd been warned. Best of luck to him, he certainly has my best wishes.
That Churchill quote though? Was that aimed at the board? Sadly for Flicker they had an Alan Sugar quote in mind. Dagnall scored today anyway.
haha googy lad. It was very surreal watching him as i was stood on the gangway steps making my way down towards the concourse in the ponty end. Dunno how he caught my attention as there was a lot going off on the pitch but for whatever reason he did. Wasn't very nice to watch tbh as I do feel for him but this is the football merry go round and he won't be the first or the last to go through emotions like that.
My thoughts exacly looked like he was bidding us farewell. I just don't understand the difference between last season and this, basically the same squad and same manager; totally different performances. Can anyone explain?
Re: My thoughts exacly Last season there was no comfort zone, it was **** or bust and Flitcroft, expecting to be sacked at the end of the season anyway, had nothing to lose so he played Keith Hill's planned 5-3-2 formation. This season he had to make his own managerial decisions and like many other managers who believed the squad was only good enough to finish 4th bottom he went down the cautious 'trying to get 0-0 draws', 'clean sheets at all costs' route because they had a full season to creep towards 50 points. Yet again it didn't work like it didn't for Hill or Davey.
Re: My thoughts exacly yes. he totally stopped doing what worked, and reverted back to the thing he changed and the very thing which got the previous manager the sack. he bloated the squad with average and injured players. he praised youth development, then refused to develop them. he point blank refused to change 4-4-2 and unsettled the entire balance of the squad because of it. with the amount of backing and 'assurances' he got, he really only has himself to blame. almost entirely self-inflicted. he could have gone onto very good things with barnsley, but his philosophy got increasingly confused. basically, he gradually morphed into keef.
Re: My thoughts exacly I wanted flicker to succeed so much but why did he change, why not be like he was last year. He didn't know his best 11 and played people all over the place
